Dr. Roger A. Fontes, Jr.
Dr. Fontes completed medical school with highest honors at Washington University in St. Louis (ranked #3 medical school in the US in 2009). He then completed orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of California, San Francisco.
Following residency, he traveled to Europe to study with some of the world leaders in trauma and shoulder surgery. An additional fellowship in Italy with Dr. Maurizio Catagni, a recognized pioneer in Ilizarov surgery, added significant experience with this powerful technique.
After his fellowship, Dr. Fontes returned to UCSF as Assistant Professor for three years. While there, he co-managed the Foot and Ankle Service at the university, developing quite an expertise in complex reconstructions of the foot and ankle. He also directed the Shoulder Service at San Francisco General Hospital and is particularly interested in arthroscopy of the shoulder.
Dr. Fontes specializes in the diseases of the shoulder, knee, and hip and problem fractures such as nonunions and malunions. Dr. Fontes was one of the first surgeons in Las Vegas/Henderson to perform arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. Furthermore, he is actively involved in the development and production of several orthopaedic instruments and technologies and has been a guest speaker and instructor for several companies.

Dr. Michael S. Ravitch
Dr. Ravitch graduated from Ohio State University in 1966. Following graduation, he performed an internship at San Francisco General Hospital.
After completing his internship, he served during the Vietnam era on the Special Forces. After an honorable discharge, he pursued his medical career with a residency at the University of New Mexico Medical Center with the Carrie Tingley Hospital for Crippled Children from 1970 to 1974. He then opened his own practice in 1974 in Henderson, Nevada, which eventually became Black Mountain Orthopaedics when Dr. Fontes joined in 2002.
Over the years, Dr. Ravitch has developed and built his practice to give support and care for the communities of Henderson and Boulder City, and is the longest, established orthopaedic physician in Henderson.
In addition to his role as the first orthopaedic surgeon in Henderson, Dr. Ravitch has also served the local community. Dr. Matthew Ragsdell
Dr. Ragsdell attended Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences where he earned his D.O. degree in 2002. He then spent the next five years at Michigan State, completing both his Internship and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2007.
Having developed an interest in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Reconstruction in 2008 at the prestigious William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, he spent the year as an associate to the team physician for the Detroit Lions NFL team.
He chose Las Vegas for his practice after developing a good relationship with Dr. Fontes and the medical community during an Orthopaedic Trauma rotation at University Medical Center (UMC) during his residency.
Dr. Ragsdell has a particular interest in the complex procedure known as the Reverse Shoulder Replacement. This relatively new but very challenging procedure gives patients with massive and irreparable rotator cuff tears the chance to restore excellent function and reduce or eliminate pain. Only a handful of surgeons perform this technique locally and none can say that they have more experience than Dr. Ragsdell.
